Bristlenose Plecos (not to be confused with the much larger common pleco) are a small species of freshwater catfish that helps to compliment your clean up crew and keep algae at bay. Also known as bristlenose catfish or bushynose pleco, these little guys get about 3-4 inches long and make a great addition to most peaceful community tanks. They are available in a variety of colors such as brown, black, grey, and albino. With the correct care, environment and diet, they have a lifespan of 5+ years. A minimum tank size of 20 gallons or more is recommended to house this fish.

Bristlenose plecos spend most of their time at the bottom of the tank searching through the substrate for food or on the side of the glass hoping to find algae. They are notorious eaters and require a constant food supply. Aside from a diet of algae, the bristlenose pleco should be fed alternate foods to assure they are getting enough to eat and proper nutrition. A main staple diet should include algae wafers, salt free green beans (straight from the can), cucumber, and zucchini. Adding driftwood to your tank is also recommended to aid in fiber intake and digestion.

This is a great fish for beginners as well as experienced fish keepers. They are a hardy species that can tolerate a wide variety of tank conditions. With a well oxygenated tank and plenty of hiding spaces and caves, this fish does well in 75-80 degrees F.

Males have large bristles that grow from the head and snout. Females have small bristles that grow around the mouth. It is not advised to keep two males in the same tank as they can be territorial, especially during spawning.

Buyer will receive 1 UNSEXED albino bristlenose pleco that is between 1-3 inches long.
